Not far from there, in the delta of the Guadalquivir, begins the Parque Nacional Coto de Doñana. It is one of the most important marshlands in Europe and the habitat of many endangered animal species such as the lynx or the Spanish eagle.
In the north of the province are the mountainous foothills of the Sierra Morena, a protected area that is ideal for hiking. Further south, the mining regions around the Río Tinto, also known as the "Red River", begin. No wonder, since the large copper deposits in the region colour its water deep red.
